New Manchester City signing Carlos Tevez, who will be featuring in the Vodacom Challenge for the second successive year, says he moved to The Citizens for one reason only – to win trophies. The Argentine international already has a Vodacom Challenge winners medal after claiming victory in 2008 while in the colours of Manchester United. He will get an early chance for more silverware when he visits Mzansi’s shores again for a second round of action against Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
The deal to take him to The City of Manchester Stadium was wrapped up this week, and the 25-year-old says he is delighted at working under Mark Hughes.
"My ambition is to help Manchester City recover the status they once had as one of the best clubs in Europe and to try and win trophies," Tevez says. "The coach [Mark Hughes] and the owners made me understand the reality at Manchester City – it was a very important decision for me to make but it is a bit of a strange sensation for me to be back again in Manchester.
"I will give everything to help City become one of the biggest and most important clubs in England – and win some trophies.”
"But it is very important to remember I am just one more player to add to the strength of the squad, one more player working with the coach and my new team-mates to help us win trophies for City."
Manchester City open their 2009 Vodacom Challenge campaign against Pirates at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday (July 18). |
